WARE COLLECTIVE
WARE (“Women Artisans’ Rehabilitation Enterprise”) was established in 1995 by a longtime SHARE employee, Joseph Jacinto. Originally located in Joseph’s own home, it moved first into a rented space and then into its own workshop, purchased with savings and a loan from MarketPlace. This workshop is a ten-minute walk from the SHARE office. The twenty-five members doing tailoring and embroidery are involved in all aspects of operating the business. WARE is also “Chindi” central, as they concentrate on using scrap fabric (Chindis) in new designs. Their long-term plan is to increase their sales—and membership—by attracting new buyers and expanding into more local and foreign markets.
