SHRAMIK MAHILA MANDAL CO-OPERATIVE
Started in 2015, SMM has 12 members. Shramik means labour or hard work, which is what the group set out to embody, and they have really lived up to their name. The group believes that their core strength and values lie in always maintaining equal work distribution and in working together to deliver on time. 20-25 women had come for the initial meeting with Share out of interest and curiosity. Some fell away, but those who stayed saw an opportunity to work, earn and at the same time be able to take care of their children. D’silva Nagar is a sleepy village, where SMM cooperative is set away from the hustle bustle of the city. The public transport is infrequent and before starting at the cooperative most women had never travelled to Mumbai. In five years, the group has shown tremendous growth both personally and professionally. Having a record of almost always delivering on time, the group has managed to double its orders and skill level thus making more complicated styles.
