SAHARA COLLECTIVE
Sahara (Support) was named to reflect both the financial and the emotional support the artisans receive from working with the cooperative. Just a ten-minute walk from the SHARE office, it was founded in 1997 by Aburgani, who had formerly cut the garments at Ghar Udyog. Sahara became so successful that it outgrew the space it had rented for two years and was able to buy its own workshop. It now has twenty-three members tailoring and doing embroidery. In addition to creating products for the MarketPlace lines, they design and sell to local markets and hope to expand this part of their business.
