GHAR UDYOG COLLECTIVE
Ghar Udyog (Home Enterprise) has had two lives. It was originally founded in 1995 by Mr. P. Ziauddin, who learned sewing, tailoring, and pattern-making with SHARE. The cooperative became incorporated into Nirmaan when Ziauddin left to start a fabric printing workshop on the outskirts of Mumbai. After he established the fabric cooperative as a source of hand painting, hand block batik, and tie-dye, he added a sewing unit and called it Ghar Udyog again. The new Ghar Udyog consists of twelve women working on sewing machines and five embroidery artisans. Thanks to increased sales, they anticipate that by the end of 2013 they will have twenty-five artisans.
