Arpan Co-operative

Arpan (Offering to the Gods) was founded in 1999 in Thane. This Mumbai suburb of 1.8 million people is a two-hour train ride from the SHARE office. Although the city is an industrial and administrative center, it is difficult to find employment there, as so many people have immigrated to Thane to look for jobs. The fourteen members of the Arpan cooperative rotate the management team roles so that each member experiences the different positions. They are also committed to a decision-making process that promotes open discussion and allows for disagreements as they work toward consensus.
